Covering an area of 627,444 hectares in the Hamersley Range in the Pilbara Region, the park is approximately 200 kms from the coast and relatively undisturbed compared with the surrounding major land uses of mining and pastoralism.

It is listed on the Register of the National Estate.

The area is highly valued by the Panjima, Yinhawangka and Kurrama Aboriginal people.
