Lying near the eastern edge of the Darling Range, 12km south-east of Boddington townsite, it is surrounded by privately owned land cleared for agriculture.

This reserve lies within a transition zone between forest and lower rainfall woodland. Mostly upland country with gravel soils, exposed granite rock and heath vegetation, the predominant vegetation is Jarrah trees, with Wandoo and Marri scattered throughout. It provides an important representative sample of flora and fauna of the region.
