The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is working with local communities and partner local governments to develop a Locality Plan for the stretch of river between Windan Bridge and Guildford.

The Windan-Guildford stretch of the Derbal Yirragan (Swan River) serves as Perth’s major east-west biodiversity corridor and holds deep cultural meaning for Whadjuk Noongar people, while providing treasured recreational opportunities for communities across the City of Bayswater, City of Belmont, City of Swan, City of Vincent and Town of Bassendean.

This important planning document will set the long-term vision for caring for and enjoying the public foreshore areas along the Windan-Guildford Locality, while protecting its unique environmental and cultural values. Your input is important to help create a plan that reflects community values and aspirations for this iconic Perth waterway.

This stretch of the river encompasses some of Perth’s most loved foreshore areas. This planning process recognises that community access and enjoyment is important for wellbeing, whilst being thoughtfully balanced with the environmental and cultural significance of the river system.

The Windan-Guildford Locality Plan will provide policy guidance for implementing the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006 across this significant stretch of river, working collaboratively with the Cities of Bayswater, Belmont, Swan and Vincent, and the Town of Bassendean.
