The department's Parks and Wildlife Service conducts approximately 130 prescribed burns each year, which are chosen from around 400 prescriptions within the annual Burn Options Program.  This is due to multiple factors including forward deployment of personnel. The final decision to carry out a prescribed burn is made on the morning of ignition, to ensure the safest possible conditions.
