ApprovedThe Fortescue Marsh Nature Reserve (Nyiyaparli Country) is the largest and most important wetland in the Pilbara region. It is located in the middle reaches of the Fortescue River, in the Fortescue River Valley about 100km north-west of Newman.
The 107,000ha Fortescue Marsh Nature Reserve was created under the State Government’s Plan for our Parks initiative which created 6.5 million hectares of new national and marine parks and conservation reserves across Western Australia.
The joint management plan was prepared by the Department and Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and the Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC.
