The park straddles the lower reaches of the Murchinson River, and includes the Murchison River Gorge, renowned for Nature’s Window, cliff-dominated coastlines, and sandplains seasonally covered in wildflowers.

The park features many Aboriginal heritage sites including artefacts, mythological places, paintings, a quarry and midden sites. Since publication of this plan, the Nanda people have been formally recognised as Traditional Owners of an area which includes parts of Kalbarri National Park.
