Due to its remoteness and lack of permanent water, it’s springs and soaks, including Mooka Spring, provide for unusual and regionally significant ecological communities. The range itself, rises about 100 metres above the surrounding plain as a remnant of an older land surface rich in gemstone and fossil occurrences.

The Kennedy Range is known as ‘Mundatharrda’ to the local Inggarda Aboriginal language group.
