The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions welcomes schools conducting outdoor education in WA’s parks and reserves as we aim to connect people with nature and inspire a passion for conservation. Our parks protect WA’s most significant biodiversity and cultural values. DBCA encourages responsible, safe and sustainable access to those important landscapes.

WA’s parks and reserves provide opportunities for activities such as hiking, kayaking, climbing, camping and mountain biking in awe inspiring locations that can be both spectacular and challenging.

DBCA through the Parks and Wildlife Service manages WA’s national parks and conservation reserves. To help plan your outdoor education activities, contact the relevant Parks and Wildlife Region or District for information specific to that area. The safety of all visitors is a primary consideration. The local District office can advise of any circumstances that may affect the safety of your group, such as prescribed burns.

Approval and notification for camping and activities

You may need to complete a form to seek approval or notify us of your activities.

For groups wishing to use campsites on the Bibbulmun Track and Cape to Cape Track, notification is required to assist with track management (see Downloads below).

If your group seeks to camp at a site that is not a bookable campsite (other than sites on Bibbulmun or Cape to Cape tracks), you will need lawful authority from the department (for the relevant form see Downloads below).

Some Regions/Districts have sites and activities (such as abseiling, caving or campsites) that can be booked by school groups. Please contact the Region/District for more information on opportunities and booking needs. See specific contacts for group bookings below. Groups planning an overnight hike in Kalbarri National Park must notify Parks and Wildlife’s Geraldton Office geraldtonenquiries@dbca.wa.gov.au
