H5 bird flu (high pathogenicity avian influenza H5N1) is a highly contagious disease that can affect birds and other animals. As the disease continues to spread globally, it poses a significant risk to Western Australia's unique wildlife and ecosystems.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) is working with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), along with State and Federal government agencies, to deliver a coordinated whole-of-government response to the impacts of H5 bird flu on Western Australia's native wildlife.  

DPIRD is Western Australia's lead government agency for H5 bird flu coordinating the government’s preparedness planning, surveillance, biosecurity measures and response activities.
