The Kalamunda MTB Trails are one of Western Australia’s most popular mountain biking destinations. Located just 40 minutes from Perth, the trails are set across Beelu National Park and parts of Mundaring State Forest, offering accessible trails that cater to a wide range of riding styles and experience levels.
On 28 April 2024, the Premier announced $3 million in funding to deliver the Kalamunda MBT Network Trail Concept Plan.
This investment supports:
- construction of new mountain bike trails
- refurbishment, realignment and maintenance of existing trails
- upgrades to visitor infrastructure, including a formal car park at the base of Mount Gunjin and new toilet facilities at key locations.
Once completed, the network will provide more than 60 kilometres of high‑quality trails.
Current and upcoming work
Design and construction of approximately 8 kilometres of new mountain bike trail and realignment of approximately 4.3 kilometres of existing trails is underway.
Upgrades include:
- new trails and improved network connectivity
- improved wayfinding and trail signage
- upgraded trailheads and supporting visitor infrastructure
- safer, more resilient trail alignments that reduce environmental impacts.
Temporary disruptions to trails
To enable construction and upgrade works, sections of the existing trail network will be temporarily closed. In some locations, permanent realignments will be made to improve connectivity, trail sustainability, safety and rider experience.
Information on works, trail closures and project updates will be provided on this webpage and through onsite signage within Beelu National Park. Riders should also check the Park Alerts system for further information.
Trail closures will be managed and staged where possible to minimise disruption. However, riders may need to adjust routes, access points or riding plans while works are underway.
Visitors are asked to:
- follow all temporary signage and detours
- respect trail closures and construction zones
- avoid entering closed areas for their own safety
- check the webpage and Park Alerts for updates before visiting.
